This particular scholarship program is made in honor of Mr. Jim Shields who served the US Army at Picatinny Arsenal for 34 years and finished his service as 2-Star Program Executive Officer for JPEO A&A.

Number of Scholarships to be Awarded

This year the NDIA intends to award 2-3 of $10,000 to $15,000 each. Scholarships will be awarded by Tuesday, May 26, 2026.

Eligibility

Students must be a graduating high school senior in the school year in which the application is being submitted. Candidates for NDIA Picatinny Scholarships must also have parental or familial history with Picatinny Arsenal – and noted in their application.

Evaluation Criteria

  • Ability as demonstrated:
    • Transcript
    • SAT Scores
  • Participation in extracurricular activities and awards received while in high school.
  • Counselor and one teacher recommendation.
  • Career Objectives
  • Completion of an essay on the importance of Defense Preparedness for our Country (Approximately 1000 words)

The Picatinny Chapter of the National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA), in conjunction with the National Armaments Consortium (NAC) held the 40th Annual Firepower Awards Luncheon at The Hanover Marriott, Whippany, New Jersey, on November 3, 2022. Activities commenced at 11:00 am with a cocktail social. The luncheon and awards ceremony took place at 12:00 noon.

Admission and seating were by ticket only. Tables of 8 seats were arranged for all attendees. Tickets were not distributed without receipt of the completed registration form and payment.
